THE BUILDER
Just a little bit about me...
I grew up in a small Midwestern town through the 60s and 70s in a working-class family. My father taught me to be resourceful and how to work with my hands. I spent countless hours as a child constructing my own toys, bicycles, go-karts, scale models and whatever else I was interested in with the resources that were available to me. As a teenager, I taught myself to play guitar and have now been playing for more than 40 years - both professionally and as a hobby. This do-it-yourself mentality eventually led me to building my first guitar in 2007, and I have never looked back.
My mission is to offer great guitars that are affordable for everyone, from casual players to performing musicians.
There are a large number of manufacturers and custom builders at the top of the scale who offer amazing instruments. I am not going to make any lofty claims about how much better my guitars are than someone else's or how innovative they may be. Instead, my focus is to build the best-sounding and best-playing instrument that I can for a modest investment.
Thomas Guitars is a one-man shop with modest power equipment. My hands are the most important tool in my shop. They touch every element of the instrument throughout the entire process, from selecting the woods to hand polishing the finish. I find this to be a very rewarding experience, as each guitar carries a bit of my heart and soul with it.
Currently working full time as an art director, I devote most of my spare time to performing music with my wife and building guitars. Soon, I plan to retire from my current career to build guitars full time.
